I recently posed a question on LinkedIn about explaining virtualization to someone who doesn’t know what a computer is. Now, I’ll let you in on a little secret: I had this cheeky analogy brewing in my mind even before I hit that “Post” button. Sometimes, you just need to validate your own bizarre ideas, right?

Obsidian: Readwise Integration

today we take a look at a service which allows us to collect highlights from several different sources and can export them to Obsidian. Readwise doesn’t only collect your highlights, it also allows you to get those highlight brought up again via email or app via a SRS (Spaced Repetition System).

I use Readwise as it allows me to only use one plugin to export all my highlights (web, Kindle, etc.) to Obsidian. I use the Readwise Official plugin directly from Readwise.

The most important aspect when I aggregate information is to not create a data swamp. Been there, done that. See also Collectors Fallacy:

Without self-awareness and discipline, our “default state” is to hoard information.

Only if you walk the steps of ACE regularly the information which is collected will not disappear into a black hole.

today we take a closer look at a plugin which has some more depth to it: Buttons Plugin.

Buttons is a lot more complex then the other plugins we looked at till now and allows us to create Button inside our notes which make recurring tasks more easy.

And together with other Plugins, like Multi-Column Markdown Plugin or Dynbedded, you can enhance the capabilities quite a bit.

let’s take a look today into how we can bring some more oomph into Obsidian. Let’s supercharge it with Supercharged Links.

The plugin allows us to mitigate the issue with emojis in note names and can deliver more information via an Obsidian Link that itself by giving us additional visual cues.

A lot of Obsidian example vaults use emojis in their note names to make them more visual and to transfer additional easy recognisable information. There is a problem with that though. Some alternative synchronisation tools, like Dropbox, or other operating system besides Linux don’t like them.

Last time I did write a little about the 2 aspects of #MiYo:

ACE = Gathering of knowledge
Framework = Gain new abilities, adapt new frameworks / processes etc.

Let’s start a journey today which destination is MiYo - ACE.

Short warning, it will be a long one.

The journey will be taken in several stages and during it we will perhaps deviate from the planned path. Let’s wait and see.

let’s do a full review of an Obsidian plugin again, let’s take a look at Todoist Sync Plugin. There are more plugins to integrate with Todoist for Obsidian and I will cover them briefly at the end.

But before we start with Todoist a quick update about Better Word Count. Better Word Count got updated and now covers all functions which are described on the webpage. There are more functions to come and I will create a new video when that happens.

And you are right. MiYo - Make it your own wasn’t really a big overarching describe everything kind of blog posts which explains everything.

It was a teaser, a start of a journey which doesn’t always takes the shortest route to get to it’s destination.

MingleMangle of My lol wut?

A lot of people ask me what is behind Mingle Mangle of My Mind (MMoMM).

It is a translation from the german word “Kuddel Muddel” and “Meine Gedanken”, which is My Mind. So it might not be 100% correct but I think it fits. As an abbreviation I use MMoMM or as that is taken a lot of the time MMoMM.org.

The Mingle Mangle was one of the reasons to start digging deeper into #PKM and #Obsidian. The Mingle Mangle, all the things tossed together, the 1005 ideas which I have, trying to make them productive and structured.

Today I want to review Dynbedded.

Dynbedded will integrate content from other notes dynamically. This is valid for dataview queries, so it becomes easy to create a library of common queries, but also for date references. You can jump back and forth in time with Dynbedded.

I’m in the area of IT for a long time now. I was one of the youngest who attended a Cobol training at the VHS (adult education center). And after that I stuck my nose again and again into programming, but it was never my job.
